This is the 3rd time I commissioned this artist and they still give me a pretty unsatisfying commission. I don't know why I keep going back to this same artist. It's just that their normal art captures me and I just hope every time I go back that they would draw my characters better.

I don't know if it's because of my eye for beauty or their inability to draw my characters...
I need to stop asking this person for commissions ugh...

It could be that your characters don't translate well to their style- I know a few artists who will reject certain characters if they feel their style won't do them justice, but then again the artists I see that way are well established and /can/ pick and choose.

I don't know if the artist in question does this, but maybe you should request a sketch part way through? With my commissioners I'm adamant about making sure that everything looks okay, so I'll send the commission to them in stages- always at least the sketch stage, and sometimes the flat color stage too if it's supposed to be a reference image or a fully shaded piece. It makes the commissioning process a little bit slower because you have to accomodate for that back and forth, but I've found that my commissioners are a lot more happy with the outcome and often times the corrections are very easy to fix- especially when they're broken down into stages (lot easier to fix a wonky arm on a sketch than after you've completely shaded the piece, for example). Either way, I'm sorry you've gotten some unsatisfying commissions, and I hope this helps at all!

Ugh I know the feel.

Half the time I get commissioned to draw someone's character I lose the hop in my step partway through. Sometimes it's the character, sometimes it's the design, and sometimes it's just because I don't feel like drawing that day. I've had very few people complain though and I hope it's because they actually liked it, not because they feel obliged to say it looks good ;-;

Agreed 100%
When I look back to my old commissions that I've done for others, I cringing and wonder if the people who commissioned me actually liked those drawings ;;
I set high expectations for myself and it really pains me when I can't reach that expectation for a commission ;___; If I don't like it, I doubt others would X'D

This feels a tad mean, but understandable, as an eye for beauty can be difficult to look past, especially when it's your own character you commission someone to draw for you, if I were you I'd ask them for commissions of something new and ask another artist to do your oc, as the way you draw your oc's they might not be used to the style of your characters that you ask them to draw

Yeah, I blame myself more than anything. I wish I have a lower expectation so I can appreciate art of all different levels and styles. I still doesn't make me support this artist any less. Maybe my character was just out of their field of... preference((?)For a lack of better words) but if I had something they were comfortable with, they'll ace the commission with no effort XD

I'm sorry if I come off as mean. I'm in no way calling any artist a bad artist just by not fulfilling my expectations ;v;

Perhaps yis and Awh no I don't think you come off as mean per say, just a little too demanding, but then again, at least you weren't cruelmwith your words explaining it and maybe yeah haha, I'd love a chance at drawing other peoples characters but I can never get anyone to commision me as I do generators more than uploading my own art, you should check me out and if you like I'd be happy to do you a commision, a cheap one as Im not the greatest but I have got excellent compliments from friends

I don't mind helping you out a bit. Do you have a price? (For headshot, half body or fullbody.) What do you prefer drawing? I have like a huge range characters,from a cute insect to dragons to canine/felines to humans and humanoids and more XD

Ah then do you think you can draw full bodies of my 4 main OCs? Here:
reyniki.deviantart.com/art/OC-…
(Xenox has shark teeth, he's just eating a lollipop here lol)

Don't worry about what their colours are, just colour them with the colours I've used here XD Light blue for Val, purple for Xenox, Blue for Alvis and pink for Angel.

You pick the poses and all that, just have fun ^^ That would be 20 points, right? ovo

*heavy breathing* I.. I can try, but they look really good ;-; too good for me to copy in my own style, I hate to say but have you got any other oc's less human looking?? ;o; if it were head shots it might be easy and less stressful for me ; - ;

Ah no worries XD
Try the character with the triangle head on my front page? (Also as my icon now) Just a half body will be cool! I don't have a real reference for him but looking at my front page custom box for him is all you need XD

He has black gloves too. Human hands... and if you can, include the halo behind his head? No wings XD

I'm sorry you feel like this, i can be like this with commissions too and it's the most annoying thing ever.
You want to do great with someones commission but end up underperforming.

I've definitely been this artist too. Or at least I feel like I've been. It may just be people are way too nice, are too disappointed/shy to point it out or something...

I just know the times I've underperformed and I really wish I can tell when my customer is feeling down about my art so I know where I can improve next time :(
